NIHC Joins Partnership with Newly Formed Asia International Hemp Federation

Participation will help Foster Collaboration Across Borders

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dec. 17, 2024– The National Industrial Hemp Council (NIHC) announced today its participation in the Asia International Hemp Federation (AIHF) formed during the Asia International Hemp Expo and Forum 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand. This groundbreaking initiative unites key players from across the globe to promote collaboration, innovation, and sustainability within the hemp industry.

“NIHC was honored to join representatives from Thailand, Ukraine, Europe and Australia in signing the agreement, underscoring a shared commitment to advancing the global hemp industry by removing trade barriers, promoting resource efficiency and implementing evidence-based policies,” said NIHC President and CEO Patrick Atagi. “As the only U.S.-based hemp organization engaging in such international collaborations, NIHC is uniquely positioned to help grow the US hemp industry while fostering economic and environmental benefits worldwide. This partnership is an important step in establishing hemp as a cornerstone of sustainable development and innovation.”

NIHC’s role in this initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to advancing the U.S. hemp industry by leveraging global partnerships. Through its collaboration with the AIHF, NIHC will work to ensure that US hemp producers and businesses have access to new markets, cutting-edge research, and a robust global supply chain. Founding members of the AIHF include representatives from Japan, Pakistan, Mongolia, Singapore, and Thailand.

The AIHF’s objectives align closely with NIHC’s mission, focusing on:

  •   Facilitating Trade & Supply Chain Development: Removing regulatory obstacles, creating digital and physical trading platforms and strengthening supply chain links.
  •   Promoting Cooperation and Industry Standards: Building a network of stakeholders and establishing consistent quality standards to enhance the industry’s global reputation.
  •   Driving Legal and Policy Change: Advocating for evidence-based policies and practical safety standards in collaboration with government and regulatory bodies.
  •   Encouraging Sustainability: Promoting eco-friendly farming practices and maximizing hemp’s potential to reduce waste.

Atagi signed the agreement during a ceremony at the Asia International Hemp Expo and Forum. As a member, NIHC will work with AIHF partners to foster collaboration across borders, supporting the development of an inclusive, innovative, and environmentally conscious hemp industry.
